Performative Walk

As an artist deeply invested in exploring the intersections of identity, place, and performance, I was honored to collaborate with Sall Lam Toro on a at the CPH:DOX Festival. On March 22nd, we were invited to lead a performative walk following the screening of the documentary *Little Amal*,a documentary film about a Syrian refugee kid. Our piece aimed to delve into the film's key themes, reflecting on the experience of migration and the complex nature of citizenship. ‍
The performance took place in Nørrebro, one of Copenhagen's most multicultural neighborhoods. Our performative walk was an attempt to re-dramatize the urban landscape, a landscape that conceals myriad faces, skins, and the subtle sounds of breath—the essence of its diverse inhabitants.
Join us at 15:45 if you are not attending the film and wish to join the walk. We chose to not use CPH:DOX platforms and distance ourselves given the fact that they have positioned themselves “neutrally” in relation to the genocide in Palestine enacted by the Israeli government and military. How irresponsible it is for such a big platform like @cphdox to stay silent and “apolitical” at such a moment in history when the film festival itself is showing so many pro-Palestinian documentaries this year?! I have been seeing comrades in the film community comment on this too and it is outrageous!
Maryam Hashempour and Sall Lam Toro were invited by Ungdomsredaktionen intodoing a performative walk with an audience after the screening of thedocumentary Little Amal at on the 22nd March. The film starts at 14:30 at theEmpire Bio cinema and around 15:45 we leave into our walk around nørrebro fromthere for about 45 min. This piece is a performative attempt for there-dramatization of an urban landscape that hides many faces, skins, and breathsounds within itself. An effort to make invisible things visible through walkingand talking.
