Online Performance
Ms. M
In 1996, Mrs. M kisses her husband goodbye in the Gothenburg metro and makes her way to her son's school. Her husband, children, and the local police are still haunted by a simple question: Where did she go after stepping off the train?
Mrs. M's niece, born after this mysterious day, begins exploring the videotapes, letters, and photographs her family in Iran received from Mrs. M. She invites her collaborators to reflect on the same question that now haunts her: Where did she go after stepping off the train?
Detachment is a digital performance based on documents left behind by an Iranian family who fled their home during the Iran–Iraq War and ultimately settled in Sweden after spending years in Türkiye and Belgium. Produced during the pandemic, the performance brought together Iranian, Turkish, Belgian, and Swedish performers in an online collaboration and was presented at the Reconnect Digital Theatre Festival in 2021.
