A Night with Buddha - Echoes of Silence

Maryam Hashempour collaborated with Monirah Hashemi, an internationally recognised Afghan artist, on Echo of Silence, a site-specific participatory performance presented as part of A Night with Buddha.

Since the destruction of the largest historic Buddha statues by the Taliban in 2001, A Night with Buddha has been held annually, both inside and outside Afghanistan, in their memory.

In 2024, A Night with Buddha was held in Sweden. Led by Monirah Hashemi and supported by Malmö Theatre Academy, it was presented at the Malmö Forbidden Cultures Festival. The event brought together storytelling, music, and dance to celebrate the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the Hazara community.
